The Tuatara is a unique reptile native to New Zealand, known for its distinct lineage dating back to the dinosaur age. It resembles lizards but belongs to a separate, ancient group called Sphenodontia. Tuataras are notable for their spiny crest along their back, which is more pronounced in males. They are slow-growing, long-lived, and adapted to cooler climates, making them a significant species for evolutionary study.
