Harakeke
Harakeke or Flax in New Zealand refers to the native Phormium species, particularly Phormium tenax, known as Harakeke. It’s a perennial plant with long, sword-like leaves and striking flower spikes. Harakeke is culturally significant to Māori for its traditional uses in weaving, clothing, and basketry, and it plays an important ecological role in New Zealand’s natural habitats.
