About Us
Thanks, Scratch Foundation!
This project was the brainchild of the Pam Fergusson Charitable Trust.
Funded by the Scratch Foundation as a Scratch Equitable Creative Coding Project, it started its life as the Aotearoa Sprites Project. The initial vision was to create a space for kids all over Aotearoa (New Zealand) to see themselves in the coding projects they make online.
The project has now taken on a life of its own and has been re-branded as the Sprite Library.
With the Sprite Library project, we have gathered imagery from all over the world so that kids from all over the world can find something that connects to them and the places they come from.
Empowering Creativity and Learning
Whether for storytelling, game development, or educational projects, our Library provides the tools for students and teachers to express their ideas and stories with a local touch. By making these resources freely available and culturally relevant, we aim to break down barriers in tech education and ensure that everyone can explore and excel in the digital realm.
Join us in this exciting journey of digital exploration and creation.

What are Sprites?
Sprites are the building blocks of digital creativity. They are two-dimensional (2D) images or animations that are integrated into larger media projects. Think of them as the characters, objects, and scenery that bring a digital world to life.
